Humans, guinea pigs and fruit bats are the only mammals that cannot make their own vitamin C. Scaling up from animals, humans need at least 2 grams (2,000mgs) daily and arguably much more. Vitamin C is protective against infection. Sufferers of scurvy die from infections.
Ascorbic acid is the cheapest and best form of vitamin C. Vitamin C is toxic to all microbes and is a helpful part of treatment of the upper fermenting gut. Vitamin C is poorly absorbed which, for this purpose, is ideal! Microbes are present in the upper gut in millions, and in the lower gut in trillions. The idea is to gradually increase the dose until there is mild diarrhoea, i.e. one starts to kill lower gut microbes, then reduce. This is called taking vitamin C to bowel tolerance.
There is increasing evidence that many bowel tumours are driven by abnormal gut flora and fermenting microbes in the upper gut.
Ascorbic acid is acid, so rinse the mouth well with water after drinking.
If ascorbic acid is too acid, then swap to magnesium ascorbate which is neutral, but more expensive.
Recommended daily dose 5 grams taken in 500 ml of water.
1 x rounded scoop - enclosed - = 5 g approx
Children take half adult dose
Ideally take to bowel tolerance daily
MANUFACTURER’s NOTE:
Although the product does not contain Gluten we do not label the product as 'Gluten Free' as we would need to guarantee the product has been kept away from Gluten at every stage of the supply chain or test the batch for Gluten content. We would expect the product to be tolerated by coeliacs.
Vitamin C is a reducing agent, iodine is an oxidising agent and so, if taken at the same time, they will cancel each other out and not work. The key thing is that Vitamin C and Iodine (taken by mouth) should be taken apart from each other
