Niacinamide or vitamin B3 is essential to make nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) – the intermediary between Kreb's citric acid cycle and oxidative phosphorylation. It is therefore essential for energy production. So any condition requiring energy may benefit from high dose B3. It is of proven benefit in chronic fatigue syndrome, diabetes, in many mental disorders with psychosis (see the work of Dr Abram Hoffer), arthritis (see the work of Dr William Kaufman) and some degenerative neurological diseases such as Alzheimer’s.
It appears to work by improving energy delivery so that the business of healing and repair can be powered. This squares with the observations of Dr William Kaufman, who in 1949 showed that niacinamide was an effective treatment almost regardless of the cause of the arthritic damage.
Dose 1500 to 3000 mgs daily. Some authorities suggest that niacinamide in high doses may be toxic. Any such risk would be greatly mitigated by eating stoneage diet and taking the Basic Package of supplements.
